How to Take a Scrolling Screenshot on Mac (Full Page, 2026)
macOS has no built-in scrolling screenshot. Here are 3 ways to capture an entire web page or long chat on Mac — Safari DevTools, Chrome DevTools, and Snappix's one-click auto-scroll capture.
A regular screenshot only captures what fits on your screen. When you need the whole web page, the entire chat thread, or a full document — everything below the fold — you need a scrolling screenshot. And here's the short answer: macOS has no built-in scrolling capture. The ⌘+Shift shortcuts only grab the visible screen.
The good news: there are three reliable ways to take a full-page screenshot on Mac, and one of them takes a single click. Let's go through them.
Option 1: Safari's Built-in Full-Page Capture
Safari hides a full-page screenshot tool in its developer menu:
- Open Safari → Settings → Advanced → enable Show features for web developers.
- Open the page you want to capture.
- In the menu bar: Develop → Show Web Inspector (or ⌘+Option+I).
- In the Web Inspector's Elements panel, right-click the top
<html>node and choose Capture Screenshot — Safari exports a full-size PNG of the entire page.
Limits: it only works in Safari, the output is a plain PNG with no annotation, and very long pages can fail or produce gigantic files.
Option 2: Chrome DevTools Command
Chrome can also capture full pages, via its command menu:
- Open Chrome → press ⌘+Option+I to open DevTools.
- Press ⌘+Shift+P to open the command menu.
- Type
captureand select Capture full size screenshot. - Chrome downloads the complete page as a PNG.
Limits: same story — DevTools-only, no editing, and it captures the layout of the page (sticky headers and lazy-loaded images may render oddly). For everyday captures of chats, apps and documents it's useless, since those aren't web pages at all.
Option 3: Snappix — One-Click Scrolling Capture (Any App)
