How to Take a Scrolling Screenshot on Mac (Full Page, 2026)

macOS has no built-in scrolling screenshot. Here are 3 ways to capture an entire web page or long chat on Mac — Safari DevTools, Chrome DevTools, and Snappix's one-click auto-scroll capture.

A regular screenshot only captures what fits on your screen. When you need the whole web page, the entire chat thread, or a full document — everything below the fold — you need a scrolling screenshot. And here's the short answer: macOS has no built-in scrolling capture. The ⌘+Shift shortcuts only grab the visible screen.

The good news: there are three reliable ways to take a full-page screenshot on Mac, and one of them takes a single click. Let's go through them.

Option 1: Safari's Built-in Full-Page Capture

Safari hides a full-page screenshot tool in its developer menu:

  1. Open Safari → Settings → Advanced → enable Show features for web developers.
  2. Open the page you want to capture.
  3. In the menu bar: Develop → Show Web Inspector (or ⌘+Option+I).
  4. In the Web Inspector's Elements panel, right-click the top <html> node and choose Capture Screenshot — Safari exports a full-size PNG of the entire page.

Limits: it only works in Safari, the output is a plain PNG with no annotation, and very long pages can fail or produce gigantic files.

Option 2: Chrome DevTools Command

Chrome can also capture full pages, via its command menu:

  1. Open Chrome → press ⌘+Option+I to open DevTools.
  2. Press ⌘+Shift+P to open the command menu.
  3. Type capture and select Capture full size screenshot.
  4. Chrome downloads the complete page as a PNG.

Limits: same story — DevTools-only, no editing, and it captures the layout of the page (sticky headers and lazy-loaded images may render oddly). For everyday captures of chats, apps and documents it's useless, since those aren't web pages at all.

Option 3: Snappix — One-Click Scrolling Capture (Any App)

Both built-in methods only work in a browser. If you want to capture a long Slack thread, an email thread, a CodePen, a Notion page or anything scrollable in any app, you need a dedicated scrolling capture tool. Snappix does it in one click:

  1. Install Snappix — download it free and it lives in your menu bar.
  2. Open the capture menu and choose Scrolling Screenshot.
  3. Click the window you want to capture. Snappix scrolls the content and stitches frames together automatically — no manual overlapping.
  4. Stop or let it finish — it detects the end of the page on its own.
  5. Annotate and export — mark it up with arrows and highlights, then save as a tall PNG or a paginated PDF.

Because it scrolls whatever is on screen, it works in every browser and every app — no per-site integration, no DevTools. The PDF export is particularly useful for receipts, articles and documentation you want to print or archive. (Full scrolling screenshot guide →)

Which Method Should You Use?

Safari DevToolsSafari onlyPNGOccasional full-page web captures
Chrome DevToolsChrome onlyPNGWeb developers debugging layouts

If you only need a full-page web capture once a month, the DevTools routes are fine. If you capture full pages, long threads or documents regularly, the one-click tool pays for itself the first week.

Bonus: Turn Full-Page Captures into PDF

Scrolling screenshots shine when exported as PDF: pages are paginated automatically, text stays selectable for search, and files open anywhere. Snappix exports any scrolling capture as PDF in one click — no Preview round-trip needed. We cover the full workflow in how to convert a screenshot to PDF.

Ready to Capture Full Pages in One Click?

Stop stitching screenshots by hand. Snappix auto-scrolls, stitches, annotates and exports full-page captures as PNG or PDF — bundled with region capture, OCR, beautification and screen recording in a single Mac app.
